(Bokom) is a duo by Konstantin Samolovov and Boris Shershenkov. They made their debut at Spina!Fest 1 that was held at rotunda of Maykovsky Library in St. Petersburg. The next two shows duo performed at Vertikal gallery and “Anikushin Workshop” museum where the track “Limpopo” was recorded. While Boris operates the sound sources located on his desk and at different parts of the museum via radio communication equipment, Konstantin moves in space playing on various instruments. The record may not give an idea of the live performance, but the multichannel recording mixed and mastered by Ilia Belorukov shows the whole range of sound from the almost silent parts to massive vibrations of the museum space which may be called the third participant of ensemble.
Whereas Боком deals with macrosound, Emilio Gordoa and Marta Zapparoli examines sound "by the microscope”. Listener perceives him- or herself at the laboratory with the open door to the world of musicians and their process. Here we have a noise improvisation where the micro-changes of textures, layers and interferences can be heard. Starting almost violently, the duo concentrates on long lengths in the middle of the track, admiring the sound and its shades, and so leaves a certain understatement at the end, opening a list of questions for reflection to the listener.
How will sound each of the duets in different spaces, how will these sounds interact with the audience, what is the difference between two presented approaches?
